At the Dog Fence 5600kms 0f wire fencing.
At the Break a ways!!

Cait in an underground mine!!!

Baron ness of the town itsself.....

Coming in to Coober Pedy!!!! Very flat and dry.

We left for Coober pedy on Monday morning and visitied the Arid Botanical Gardens on the Woomera outskirts. The garderns were really unusual but really very unique and beautiful. It was a long trip to Coober Pedy and the head wind we copped was relentless due to the open vastness of the plains and we lost approx. 70 kms worth of fuel because of this and we only just arrived with 20 litres to spare and thats a bit too close for comfort as there was no network coverage and very little traffic on the road.

Coober Pedy is not going to win any awards for "Tidy Town" and you can see why they made so many movies like Mad Max and outerspace type movies. The place does look like a Moonscape with mullock heaps. There is a great diversity of nationalities here and aboriginies are very prevalent in the streets and can get noisy at night around the town centre so we are glad that with advice we stayed at a park on the outskirts.(Stuart Dessert Park). We went on a great tour tuesday and saw a lot of underground dwellings , mines and a church. The bus driver was very entertaining and you get to talk to others about their journies as well. There tends to be a friendlyness among travellers and it's good to swap strories and get advice ( we don't have much of either yet). We went to the Dessert Caves resort for dinner which has won world acclaim for its uniqueness as most of it is underground and it built from dessert resources and really very impressive and we had the best meal there so far.

Ok people, a few technical problems whilst we sorted out our internet problems, but we are back now!!!!

We left sunny Adelaide and drove to Port Augusta.

On Friday we got up and went for a visit to the Wadlata Outback Centre where the kids learned about the dreamtime, native animals, and the early explorers. There was lots of "hands on" stuff for the kids about the Royal Flying Drs Service and the School of the Air. The day was very informative and lots of fun. When we left there we went for a drive to the Old Water Tower Lookout and then for a walk around the town.

On Saturday we drove to Woomera and shortly after arriving and beginning to set up I slammed my finger in the car door. I felt sick and feint and the kids got a fright, but after I had a lie down for a while I was able to get up and get going again.

On Sunday we got up and went to the Woomera Heritage and Visitor Information Centre. Here we learnt all about the second World War and how England came to Australia looking for somewhere to build and test rockets and bombs. Surprisingly the kids really enjoyed it.

Tomorrow we are off to Coober Pedy, where Cait hopes to make her fortune in an opal mine!!!!

A quiet start to the day, breakfast in the caravan and then the kids went off to play. I did some washing and began to pack up some of our stuff because we are leving Adelaide tomorrow. I have grown quite fond of our little spot on the beach, the crashing of the wave to send us to sleep at night and the walking on the boardwalk in the mornings.......I am sure there are more exciting places to come!!!!!

This afternoon we set off for the Adelaide Zoo to see the pandas. The zoo here is very well set out and not as big as the Melbourne zoo. Courtney is passionate about all animals and could spend hours and hours looking at every enclosure, I am pretty sure she took a photo of nearly every animal in the zoo!!!! So finally we get into see the pandas, well they were not that exciting really, both of them were having their afternoon sleep, the kids had more fun and spent a longer time climbing on and having photos with the panda statues that are around the panda enclosure.

People you will be pleased to know that we didn't go out for dinner tonight, we went to a deli and bought lovely cheese, dips and olives and some crusty bread and ate in the van. A nice glass of wine and some chocolate for after dinner and everyone was very full and happy.

Andrew has taken the girls over to the games room now for some games of table tennis and I am supposed to be clening up!!!!!!!

Well tomorrow night we will be in Coober Pedy, many interesting things to see there!!!!!

We are having a fantastic time in Adelaide, we thought we would only stay a night or two but we are enjoying ourselves so much we have decided to stay on for a couple more days.
Our first day here we just had a bit of a relax. Our caravan is right on the beach in Glenelg, so after a morning walk on the beach we had brunch at the Surf Life Saving Club, we then returned to the caravan park and the kids went off to enjoy the facilities [jumping pillow, games room, and wide open spaces] Andrew and I set up our chairs and sat in the sun with our books.
Today [20/7/10] we went for a day trip to Victor Harbour in the hope we would spot some Whales!!!! We didn't see any whales but we enjoyed our time at the whale watch centre and then a ride on the horse drawn tram across to Granite Island. On Granite Island we had a envigorating walk around the island and took some great photos.
Tomorrow we are hoping to visit the zoo and see the Pandas and maybe have a game of mini golf in the afternoon.

Day 1....Melb to Horsham 17/7/10

Hi all, so far so good, we pulled out of Eastcote Crt at about 10.30am and with one stop for lunch we arrived at our first destination Horsham, at 4pm. Everybody has their jobs to do and we set up and got organised without incident. We have been to the pub for dinner and had a few rounds of UNO, now everyone is getting settled in bed. It is very cold, hopefully the heating can keep us warm. Tomorrow we are bound for Adelaide.
